Bubble Barriers – Reliable Waterbody Management Technology

What is a bubble barrier?

ISS Flowthrough bubble barriers stand as a pivotal innovation in water management. Our systems employ specialised diffuser heads placed along a single narrow bore airline to create a strategic bubble curtain or bubble wall.

This sophisticated system operates by releasing micro-bubbles into the water, forming a highly efficient barrier. Some of the primary objectives include redirecting the flow of debris, pollutants, and aquatic life without causing disruption, ensuring the preservation of a balanced aquatic environment.

How do they work?

When the bubbles are released, they collectively form a protective curtain across a water body. This seamless process offers an unobtrusive solution. Whether safeguarding water intake points or managing construction impacts, our bubble curtains showcase innovation and responsibility in water management practices

Why Choose ISS Flowthrough Bubble Barriers?

We have a patented airflow regulation process that allows many diffusers to be operated from a single narrow bore airline. This ensures that the correct volume of air is delivered to each diffuser, regardless of it’s position or the water depth.

Because of this, the ISS Flowthrough systems are effectively self balancing, making them simple to operate and maintain.

Versatile and Effective Waterway Solutions

Plastic pollution on a shore: discarded bottles, bags, and debris scattered along the waterline

Plastic
Pollution

80% of the plastic in our oceans comes from our waterways. Designed to intercept plastic pollution and marine litter, our bubble barriers help to tackle this issue before the pollution reaches our oceans.

Fish
Diversion

Traditional intake screens, while effective in certain scenarios, may pose challenges to fish navigating through waterways. ISS Flowthrough bubble barriers provide a unique and safe alternative to marine life redirection.

Duckweed
Control

ISS Flowthrough’s innovative bubble barrier technology is designed to tackle the persistent challenge of duckweed. By strategically deploying bubble barriers, we disrupt duckweed growth, providing an efficient and eco-friendly solution.

Silt
Management

Silt bubble barriers, or bubble curtains, are a cutting edge solution designed to control and manage silt in waterbodies. This offers an environmentally friendly and energy-efficient method for regulatory compliance.

Saline
Intrusion

Our bubble barrier technology operates by generating a continuous stream of bubbles in the water. This bubble curtain creates a barrier that impedes the further penetration of saltwater into freshwater systems.

Abstraction Protection

Unlock the potential of water resources with ISS Flowthrough bubble barriers designed for comprehensive abstraction protection.

Typically, on traditional bubble barriers there are around 153 holes per metre to generate the bubbles.

This may be contrasted with an ISS Flowthrough diffuser curtain which has around 20,000 holes /m, which therefore creates a denser, more robust and vigorous barrier of bubbles.

ISS Flowthrough bubble barriers, created using rubber membrane type diffusers, can effectively create a much denser and more effective bubble curtain that may operate over a much wider range of air volume flows.

This allows for more flexibility in the design, ensuring it can be tailored to meet the requirements of each specific site.

Our Bubbles Rise To Ensure Plastic Pollution Doesn’t

Simple and
Cost Effective

Our systems are designed to intercept plastic pollution and marine litter, sending it to a collection point which enables simple, cost effective collection. From here, the pollution can be correctly recycled.

Supporting Aquatic Environments

As well as collecting surface debris, the bubbles rising also lifts submerged plastic and litter to the surface all while having no detrimental effect on navigation or wildlife.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer temporary bubble barriers?

We have temporary bubble curtains and aeration systems available for hire. This solution is especially useful to prevent silt migration during construction and lakeside works or as an emergency response for fish kills.

I have several water quality issues that need to be addressed. Can you provide a system that is suitable?

Yes. We can design and install both an aeration/mixing system and bubble curtain in your lake, pond, canal and river depending on the water quality issues you wish to be resolved.
