Bubble Barriers – Reliable Waterbody Management Technology

ISS Flowthrough offer unique, bespoke bubble barriers designed to the individual requirements of each site. We manage the application, supply, installation and maintenance service of each system.

ISS Flowthrough Bubble Barrier System

What is a Bubble Barrier?

ISS Flowthrough bubble barriers stand as a pivotal innovation in water management. Our systems employ specialised diffuser heads placed along a single narrow bore airline to create a strategic bubble curtain or bubble wall. This sophisticated system operates by releasing micro-bubbles into the water, forming a highly efficient barrier. Some of the primary objectives include redirecting the flow of debris, pollutants, and aquatic life without causing disruption, ensuring the preservation of a balanced aquatic environment.

When the bubbles are released, they collectively form a protective curtain across a water body. This seamless process offers an unobtrusive solution. Whether safeguarding water intake points or managing construction impacts, our bubble curtains showcase innovation and responsibility in water management practices.

Why Choose ISS Flowthrough?

We have a patented airflow regulation process that allows many diffusers to be operated from a single narrow bore airline. This ensures that the correct volume of air is delivered to each diffuser, regardless of it’s position or the water depth.

Because of this, the ISS-Flowthrough systems are effectively self-balancing, making them simple to operate and maintain.

Run the numbers

Typically, there are around 153 holes per metre to generate the bubbles. This may be contrasted with a ISS Flowthrough diffuser curtain which has around 20,000 holes /m, which therefore creates a denser, more robust and vigorous barrier of bubbles.

ISS Flowthrough bubble barriers, created using rubber membrane type diffusers, can effectively create a much denser and more effective bubble curtain that may operate over a much wider range of air volume flows. This allows for more flexibility in the design, ensuring it can be tailored to meet the requirements of each specific site.

Plastic Pollution

80% of the plastic in our oceans comes from our waterways. Our bubble barriers help to tackle this issue before the pollution reaches our oceans.

Our systems are designed to intercept plastic pollution and marine litter, sending it to a collection point which enables simple, cost effective collection. From here, the pollution can be correctly recycled.

As well as collecting surface debris, the bubbles rising also lifts submerged plastic and litter to the surface and directs it to the extraction point, all while having no detrimental effect on navigation or wildlife.

The effectiveness of bubble barriers are influenced by both water depth and in-channel flow. This is due to the deflection of bubbles as they rise through the water column. As parameters increase, a more vigorous system is required to ensure that an effective barrier is created.

The flexibility in the design of the ISS-Flowthrough systems effectively allows high volume output bubble barriers to be developed if required. This ensures that our systems can be utilized in demanding situations that can not be met by the standard perforated pipe approach.
